Our beloved mother, and grandmother, Margaret Chandler Murphy of Hico, LA, left her earthly home and entered God’s Kingdom on July 14, 2019.  Born in Ruston, LA, to her parents, Lillian and M. H. Chandler of Chandler Road, Choudrant, LA, Margaret lived most of her life in Lincoln Parish, LA.  She attended Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, (Louisiana Tech University), in Ruston, LA, before becoming a homemaker and mother of three.

Margaret is survived by her spouse of 53 years, Joel Murphy, and three children and their spouses:  Richard L. Murphy and wife, Dianne, of Center, TX; Milton Thomas “Tommy” Murphy and wife, Rebecca, of Ruston, LA; and Sharon M. Smith and husband, Robby, of Choudrant, LA.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren:  Richard Lynn Murphy and wife Tara, of Choudrant, LA; Lane Nations and wife, Suzy, of Ruston, LA; Jillian Nations of Farmerville, LA; Dakota Murphy, and wife, Rachel, of The Woodlands, TX; Amanda Murphy Kavalir, and husband, Justin, of Ruston, LA; Joseph Murphy of Ruston, LA; Brandon Morgan and wife, Jaisley of Sterlington, LA; and Amy Morgan Rose and husband, Mike of Vernon Hills, IL.  She adored her seventeen great grands. Christmas was always a house full and filled with joy.

Margaret was a wonderful cook, her dressing was consumed and loved by many, and a wonderful seamstress.   Perhaps her greatest love was her flowers. She loved nothing more than growing and admiring her beautiful plants.  Later in life, Margaret worked in the children’s department at Lewis’ in Ruston, LA, fitting hundreds of children in clothes.  She enjoyed working in the public and always had an eye for beautiful things.

Services will be held at Hico Baptist Church, Hico, LA, Wednesday, July 17th, with visitation starting at 1 and memorial service to follow at 2 pm.  Graveside service will follow at Henry Cemetery, Hico, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Pallbearers will be Margaret’s five grandsons, and Gavin Murphy, great grandson.  Honorary pallbearer will be Justin Kavalir.

A special thank you belongs to Dr. George Smith of The Green Clinic, Ruston, LA for his devotion to her health. Also, words can never express our love and thankfulness to Rebecca “Becky” Murphy, Margaret’s daughter-in-law, for the care and love she has given for many years. Our mother drew comfort knowing she was a phone call away.
