John L. “Poppa John” Vinet, a native of Chalmette and longtime resident of Slidell, LA, passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021 at the age of 79. John was born October 31, 1942 in New Orleans, LA. He was a member of the Louisiana Army National Guard, and a retired lab technician from Domino Sugar Refinery. He was also a member of First Pentecostal Church in Slidell. John was preceeded in death by parents Allen and Eunice Vinet; two wives, Nelda Jean Vinet and Kathy Marie Vinet; one sister, Janet Vinet; one son, David Stodard; two great-grandsons, Brody Wilcox Berns, Isaac Bosarge Berns, and his fur babies Tangy,Maci and Annie. He is survived by his children, Christopher “CJ” Vinet ,Wendi Price Griggs (Nealy “Bryan”), Michael Stodard,Vanessa Stodard (Chad) and Angel Clark; sisters, Marlyn Fraychineaud, Linda Biddle, and Darlene Vinet. Also survived by his grandchildren, Brianna Vinet, Nevaeh Vinet, D.J.Berns(Elizabeth), Dakota Brister, Karley Brister (Kyle), Kayla Sauls (Derrick), Destiny Griggs (Brandon), Chyanne Griggs (Brooklyn), Bryan Griggs (Arielle), Kylee Stodard, Xzavier Cousin, Xayda Cousin, Zane Smith, Jaycob Smith, Brett Worsham, Colton Clark; great-grandchildren, Mia Analise Brister (aka Harry and Joe from Kokomo as he liked to call her), Bryson Louis Boudreaux, Kohen Ruegg, Jayleah Berns, Gauge Ward, Grace Ward, Raina King, Cami Zahar, Stormee Sauls, Neveah Sauls, GraceLynn Sauls, Abbitha Sauls, Bentley White, Nathanel Griggs, Landon Griggs, Ezekiel Vera. Relatives and friends of the family attended a visitation and funeral service on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd W., Slidell LA. Interment: Forest Lawn Cemetery, Slidell, LA. Memorial Gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
